inFamous Leaks May Mean Restricted Sharing Featured

Written by

Tomorrow (21st of March) is the launch of one of Sony’s big exclusive PlayStation 4 games; infamous: Second Son. For the past couple of weeks Sony have been experiencing problems with people leaking footage and information about the game, and are now considering action to prevent future leaks.

In an email sent to us by Sony representatives it was stated that Sony has "had problems with leaks of infamous: Second Son". The email reiterated that streaming game play is strictly prohibited until launch, and enforced the guidelines for what kind of content and press is acceptable pre-launch.

We reached out to our Sony contacts, inquiring what SCE plans to do to counter leaks like this in the future. They replied that people streaming the game on Twitch and Ustream through the PS4’s Live From PlayStation feature has been causing a lot of problems. Coupled with the fact that the street date has been broken in many cases, and copies of the game are being sold on eBay, Sony has had a tough time keeping infamous: Second Son for selected press’ eyes only.

For future game launches, Sony are considering their options as to what they can do to prevent leaks. Cracking down on users that break the embargo with account bans doesn’t seem to be effective in preventing it from happening. They might disable the share button and streaming features for specific titles until launch day, using day one patches.

However Sony decides to handle the problem of early game leaks, after infamous: Second Son, they are surely going to be more vigilant in regards to upcoming exclusives.
