A reddit user, using the handle kvsMAIA, found the similarities between Modern Warfare 3's most popular map, Dome, and Strikezone to be a little extreme. Upon further investigation it became evident that Strikezone is nothing more than a recycled map; just re-textured, rotated and renamed.
This news, however, does not come as a shock to a lot of people. This isn't the first time Infinity Ward or Treyarch have re-used assets from previous games. As a matter of fact, there have been other reports of Infinity Ward re-using animations from Modern Warfare in Ghosts; the video is below.
Call of Duty: Ghosts launched has already sparked some controversy. Gamers are claiming that the PC port is broken and are petitioning for a refund. Now that it is clear that Call of Duty: Ghosts is using a lot of recycled elements, will gamers vent their disapproval and claim they are paying full price for a recycled content? I certainly didn't notice this until it was pointed out to me, so it is definitely debatable whether this is a big deal or not.
Despite the controversy, Call of Duty: Ghosts are receiving incredibly mixed reviews across the board; with reviews from 90 all the down to 30. Eskimo Press have been fortunate enough to play Call of Duty: Ghosts on the PlayStation 3, but we've decided to wait until we've tried the PlayStation 4 version before we express our opinion.
What are your thoughts on the issue? Is this acceptable?
