While I was watching the trailer with my goofy smile it dawned on me that, regardless of how awesome this game might be, it might not be for everyone. A fundamental flaw with the Grand Theft Auto series, or most open-world games, is that eventually you just run out of stuff to do; this usually leads to shooting peds with rocket launchers and trying to cause as much havoc in general. This may be the case with Grand Theft Auto Online. The chances are everything that you might potential love about this game will almost certainly be destroyed by some random with a rocket launcher.
A perfect example of a good concept gone bad is PlayStation Home. It was supposed to be the ultimate massively multiplayer online cyber hang out. Though there are no guns (or at least while not playing mini-games) people somehow find a way to ruining the experience for others. There is one word for it, and a word we are too familiar with: trolls.
There's a few ways around this, though. One might be to implement a sort of selective multi-player mode as seen in Red Dead Redemption, but if that is done than the game wont truly be an MMO game.
Oh, what the hell. This is, after all, Grand Theft Auto we are talking about. A game that is known for the chaos you can create. I know that I am sure as hell going to give it a whirl... and if worse comes to worst then I will join the trolls. If you can't beat them, join them... am I right?
As for the release date; Grand Theft Auto Online will be released on October 1 and will be included free with Grand Theft Auto 5 when it launches September 17 on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
