PS4 Borrowing Too Much From Xbox 360? Featured

Written by

The Sony Press Conference was pretty amazing, but several of its next gen features and peripherals are quite last gen-- so much, in fact, that they are basically ripping off the Xbox 360.

The PlayStation 4 has made some significant steps forward in the next generation. Some of the largest leaps we've seen that finally help separate consoles from the PC gaming scene. Finally, console gamers, specifically PlayStation gamers, can remove them selves entirely from the PC versus console dilemma because now consoles offer an entirely different experience.

The main theme of the presentation was the integration of the PlayStation with well... pretty much everything. The PlayStation 4 is aspiring to transcend the living room, and aims to offer a gaming experience that connects not only the various PlayStation platforms and devices, but an array of social and interactive mediums.

Unfortunately, when it comes to interacting with your own PlayStation 4 console Sony decided to use methods that have already been done, and quite well I might add, by the Xbox 360. The controller has the grip and curves of the Xbox 360 controller. The next gen "PS Eye" looks very similar to the Xbox 360's Kinect; only real difference seems to be that you still require the Move controller.

So, we may have been a little harsh in our assumption that the PlayStation 4 is borrowing a few things from the Xbox 360. The truth is it doesn't matter. There's been endless ridicule on the PlayStation controllers, so maybe switching the design up a little to match the comfort of the Xbox 360's controller is a good thing. One thing is for sure, the shape of the controller, and new PS Eye are not that important, especially when the biggest features are truly a game changer for the whole industry at hand.
